Lazzaro Spallanzani (Scandiano 1729-Pavia 1799) fu sacerdote e scienziato eclettico ( https://it.wikipedia.org/wiki/Lazzaro_Spallanzani) e la sua complessa e grande figura non ha certo bisogno di essere presentata qui.
Pochi sanno che si è occupato molto anche di rondoni e rondini, dedicando loro buon parte del Tomo VI di Appendice (1797) ai suoi celebri Viaggi alle due Sicilie e in qualche parte degli Appennini, con 5 Opuscoli (uno per specie) per un totale di ben 149 pagine dell'edizione originale, riportando osservazioni e sperimentazioni che coprono decenni spesso in clamoroso anticipo rispetto agli studiosi successivi. Benché i Viaggi siano stati subito tradotti in Inglese, francese e tedesco il Tomo VI fu tradotto solo in francese nel 1800 senza peraltro influire, come l'edizione italiana, sugli ornitologi del suo tempo e moderni, con alcune eccezioni.

Lazzaro Spallanzani (Scandiano 1729-Pavia 1799) was a priest and an eclectic scientist (https://it.wikipedia.org/wiki/Lazzaro_Spallanzani) and his complex and great figure certainly does not need to be presented here. Few know that he also worked a lot on swifts and swallows, dedicating to them a good part of Volume VI of the Appendix (1797) to his famous Travels to the two Sicilies and to some parts of the Apennines, with 5 booklets (one for each species) for a total of 149 pages of the original edition, reporting observations and experiments that cover decades often sensationally ahead of subsequent scholars. Although the Travels were immediately translated into English, French and German, the Volume VI was only translated into French in 1800 without influencing, like the Italian edition, the ornithologists of its time and modern ones, with some exceptions. But now in his Five Brochures on swallows and swifts there are 3 articles available that deal with the topic and offer the two brochures on swifts in the appendix (Ferri 2020: article in Italian and brochures in English), all five brochures analyzed and rewritten in contemporary Italian (Ferri, 2022), the five brochures commented and translated for the English-speaking public (Ferri, Tosatti & Tosatti 2024) as well as the courtesy translation into French of the 2024 English article with the five brochures in the original French edition of 1800 attached.

Nel 2020 ho preparato una mappa con 54 località italiane e straniere legate alle osservazioni di rondoni e rondini, citate nei suoi Opuscoli ma due sono le due abitazioni che usò a Pavia.
